FREE WORD EXPORT · NO ACCOUNT

Download your resume as an editable Word document.

Some employers and recruiters ask for a .docx file. Others just want to make a quick change without going back to a builder. ResumeUpShift exports your resume and matching cover letter as a real Word document you can keep editing, free.

How to export to Word

  1. Open the resume builder. Start blank, edit the sample or import an existing PDF, DOCX or TXT resume.
  2. Choose a style. Modern, Classic or Minimal, in US Letter or A4.
  3. Pick the document. Use the Resume / Cover letter switch above the preview.
  4. Click “Download Word (.docx)”. It sits under the PDF download button.
  5. Open and review. Check spelling, page breaks and contact details in Word or Google Docs before you send it.

What’s inside the .docx

PDF, Word or plain text?

Every export is free, so you can download all three. Use PDF when the layout must stay fixed, Word when someone asks for .docx or you want to edit elsewhere, and plain text for application forms that ask you to paste your resume. The plain-text download also keeps characters the PDF fonts can’t display.

Privacy

Word, PDF and text files are created on your device. The builder doesn’t upload your resume to export it. Optional AI features only send content after you give consent; see the privacy notice.

Questions

Will the Word file open in Google Docs and LibreOffice?

Yes. The export is a standard Office Open XML (.docx) document. Upload it to Google Drive and open it with Google Docs, or open it directly in Microsoft Word, or LibreOffice Writer. Fonts may be substituted if Arial or Times New Roman isn’t installed.

Does the Word file look exactly like the PDF?

It follows the same structure, type family and accent color, but Word lays out text itself, so line breaks and page breaks can differ slightly from the PDF preview. Check the page count before you send it.

Should I send a PDF or a Word document?

Follow the employer’s instructions. If they ask for Word or .docx, send the Word file. If there is no preference, a PDF keeps your layout fixed. Some online forms work best with the plain-text download.

Is my resume uploaded to make the Word file?

No. The .docx file is assembled in your browser from the content in the editor. Nothing is sent to a server to create it, and AI is never used for exporting.

Can I import the Word file back later?

Yes, the builder can import DOCX text. For the most reliable round trip, also click Save project: the project file keeps every field exactly, ready to reopen in the builder.
